Q1 : My self-winding watch has stopped. Should I shake it to get it started again?

I have not yet found a movement which can make a cocktail! It is therefore no use to agitate your watch like a shaker to get it started again.

A mechanical watch, be it manually winding or self-winding, "starts" in the same way: by winding the movement with the winding crown.

In a manually winding mechanical watch you can feel when the movement has been fully wound: it becomes harder to wind. BE CAREFUL NOT TO FORCE THE WINDING CROWN! YOU COULD DAMAGE THE MOVEMENT.

A self-winding mechanical watch is different than a manually winding one in that you can't feel if the movement has been fully wound. I advise you to give the winding crown about twenty turns : that should be enough. In this way you have "activated" the movement and the automatic system will then take over, using the movement of your wrist to wind the watch.

Q2 : My self-winding watch stops after 24 hours. Is this normal?

No, that means that your watch's movement is not sufficiently wound by your wrist's movement. You have an athletic solution and a more sedentary one.

- The athletic solution is to do some exercising while wearing your watch: this will benefit both your health and your watch!

- The other solution is to wind your watch every 3 or 4 days as you would with a manually winding watch. Spread out these windings from one week to another until you are winding the watch once a week.

In fact, if you don't move a great deal during one week you watch will be running on a partially unwound movement. It is best for the "health" of your watch to fully wind the movement at least once a week. About twenty turns of the winding crown should be sufficient ; or perhaps you could try a little more exercising!

-If your watch still doesn't work properly for the duration indicated in the operating instructions then there is perhaps a problem with the self-winding system. In this case you should contact a certified after sales service centre.

Q3 : My self-winding watch has stopped at 11 a.m. (or 11 p.m., I don't really know). In the operating instructions it says not to carry out any setting procedures at that time. What should I do?

In order to simplify things: Do not carry out ANY setting procedures between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. with a complicated mechanical watch. According to the complexity of the movement a certain number of mobile elements necessary for the changes of date, month, year, etc. are in operation during this time period. Any adjustment of the crown at this time can lead to damage to the watch's movement.

You should proceed as follows: wind the movement using the crown WITHOUT SETTING THE TIME! Now go quietly to bed after noting the date which appears on the watch face, you will now wait and set the time and date the following day.

-If the date which appears is the same as that of the previous evening you will know that the time indicated is that of the end of the day (p.m.) and you have to turn the hands in a counter clockwise direction to return to the morning hour. . -If the date has changed then your watch is showing the morning hour (a.m.)

nota bene: these indications assume that you have not slept for 24 hours...

Q4 : How should I clean a rubber watchband? Can it be cleaned along with the watch?

It is strongly suggested to clean your wrist-watch ONCE A WEEK when you wear the watch daily.

For this you will need:

- an old toothbrush
- Marseilles soap (or any other natural household soap)

You should dampen and then carefully brush both sides of your watchband under a stream of warm tap water. At the same time you can wash the watch itself (there is no danger, the watch is waterproof, but you should try to avoid brushing the watch crystal with too much force so as not to scratch the anti-reflection treated surfaces, just as you would with your glasses!)

- Don't forget to carefully rinse your watch in warm water. Dry the watch with a soft cloth as you would with a pair of glasses.

nota bene: if you wear your watch in the shower don't forget to remove you watch when you are finished and carefully rinse it under warm water so as to remove all traces of soap, etc...
